Enjoy the unspoilt beauty of one of the country’s oldest working valleys of vineyards and pristine mountain fynbos for the third two day Mountain Warrior Trail Running Festival at Rustenberg Wine Estate outside Stellenbosch on the weekend of 31st of August and 1st September 2013.
This two-day stage trail run festival’s routes will take participants on the slopes and contours of the Stellenbosch and Simonsberg mountains, right beneath the iconic Two Peaks and over Botmaskop on day 1 and a major section of the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy established together with neighbouring wine farms to restore the natural vegetation of this breath-taking mountain landscape on day 2.
It is split into a long distance course, Mountain Warrior Challenge, covering a total of 66km, with 36km on day one and 30km on day two. Participants can also opt for shorter distances ranging from 15km per day and an even shorter option on the Sunday. The shorter options are relative easy for 80% of the run. The 10km night run will take place on the Saturday evening, and promise to be an event for the adventurous at heart. This festival will be a first of its kind within South Africa and will spoil participants with a spectacular setting, breathtaking views, chill out entertainment area with a wine lounge and freshly made pizzas once they cross the finish line. Great speakers will touch on the latest gear trends, nutrition, injuries and other great international trailrunning events.
